Marouane Bentaleb signs first professional contract with Ajax

Ajax have confirmed that Moroccan defender Marouane Bentaleb has signed his first professional contract, committing to the club until mid-2029.

The 16-year-old, regarded as one of the promising talents within Ajax’s academy, has been rewarded after progressing through the youth ranks since joining in 2024.

Prior to his move to Amsterdam, Bentaleb developed at Sparta Rotterdam before continuing his growth within Ajax’s system.

Currently featuring for the club’s U17 side, the Moroccan prospect has impressed with his performances this season, earning recognition for both his technical ability and leadership qualities.

His development has now been formalised with a long-term professional deal, underlining Ajax’s confidence in his future potential.

Ajax sporting director Marijn Beuker highlighted the defender’s attributes and versatility following the announcement. “Marouane is a modern defender who can also play in midfield,” he said.

“He is very composed with the ball at his feet and possesses an excellent understanding of the game. Marouane doesn’t hesitate to push high up the pitch and therefore often favors attacking solutions.

As captain of the U17s, he has also established himself as a leader and has a considerable impact on and off the pitch, a valuable quality.”

Bentaleb’s ability to operate both in defence and midfield has been a key part of his development, reflecting the profile Ajax often seeks in its emerging players.

His composure on the ball and tactical awareness have made him a standout figure at youth level.

The new contract marks an important milestone in his early career, securing his place within the club’s long-term plans.

For Ajax, it represents another step in their continued focus on developing young talent through their academy structure.

As Bentaleb continues his progression, the coming years will be crucial in determining how quickly he can transition from youth football to the senior stage, with the club clearly placing its trust in his potential.
