After Al Ahly’s disappointing 1-0 victory over Al Hilal of Sudan in yesterday’s first leg of the CAF Champions League quarterfinal at Cairo Stadium, frustration is growing inside the club.
Swiss coach Marcel Koller is under fire, with insiders pointing to the team’s shaky preparation for the match as a key concern, according to Kooora. The Red Castle faithful are growing restless, and the pressure is mounting on the former Basel boss.
“Koller has two last chances to prove his worth, the first in the second leg against Al Hilal of Sudan on April 8, and the second against Pyramids FC on April 12. Things could change if the team stumbles in either match,” a club insider told Kooora,
Despite the brewing discontent, the insider added, “Al Ahly’s management still supports the Swiss coach and fully supports him at the moment.”
Whispers of a replacement are swirling, with Portuguese tactician Jose Gomes, currently at Al-Fateh in Saudi Arabia and a former Zamalek coach, emerging as a contender.
“However, no Al Ahly official has contacted him yet, given the club’s insistence on keeping Koller until further notice,” the source concluded.
