Swiss coach Marcel Koller is under fire after Al Ahly’s unexpected 1-0 defeat to Enppi in the Egyptian League Cup.
The loss, which came on Thursday in a delayed Group C match, has sparked frustration within the club. With Koller away on vacation, assistant coach Sami Qamssan took charge, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the upset on home turf.
“The anger towards Koller stems from the players’ poor performance and physical decline, not because of the loss to ENPPI,” a source inside Al Ahly told Kooora.
The coach had granted the squad a break labeled by some as overly lenient before jetting off to Switzerland during the international window. Concerns are growing as Al Ahly gears up to face Al Hilal of Sudan in the CAF Champions League quarter-finals next month.
“Some members of the football planning committee spoke with Mohamed Ramadan, the sporting director, about the team’s general shape ahead of that crucial match,” the source added.
Tensions are rising, and Koller’s next move will be key.
