Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi has avoided disciplinary action from the England Football Association (FA) despite breaching its rules by displaying religious messages on his captain’s armband during recent matches.
The England international, of African descent, first donned an armband with the phrase “I love Jesus” during Crystal Palace’s game against Newcastle.
Days later, he wore another with the message “Jesus loves you” in his team’s 1-0 victory over Ipswich.
According to information gathered from local media in England, the FA responded to the initial incident by reminding both Guehi and Crystal Palace of regulations prohibiting slogans on matchday equipment.
However, despite Guehi repeating the display in a subsequent game, the FA has decided against imposing any punishment.
Guehi’s actions have sparked debate about the balance between personal expression and adherence to established rules in professional football.
For now, the FA’s decision to issue only a reminder reflects a measured approach to the situation.
Marc Guehi in the last few days has received massive support for his decision to display the ‘I Love Jesus’ message on the armband.
