Manchester United have had an opening bid for Bryan Mbeumo rejected by Brentford, with the London club holding out for a higher fee for the Cameroonian international.
According to Sky Sports, United submitted an offer worth £55 million — comprising £45 million upfront and £10 million in add-ons — but the proposal was swiftly turned down.
Brentford reportedly value the 25-year-old forward at a figure north of £60 million, especially after a standout season in the Premier League.
Despite Mbeumo entering the final year of his current contract, Brentford retain the option to extend his deal by another 12 months, giving them additional leverage in negotiations.
The rejection comes amid new manager Ruben Amorim’s push to overhaul United’s attacking line.
Amorim, who recently sanctioned a £60 million deal for Wolves striker Matheus Cunha, is targeting Mbeumo as a major addition following the underwhelming campaigns of Rasmus Højlund, Joshua Zirkzee, and Amad Diallo.
Mbeumo’s impressive tally of 20 league goals and seven assists under Brentford boss Thomas Frank has made him a key target.
Although United may look to exploit Mbeumo’s contract situation, Brentford remain firm in their valuation.
The Bees are open to selling the forward, but only at a price that reflects his market value and recent form — a stance reinforced by their rejection of a package similar to Cunha’s, despite Mbeumo outperforming the Brazilian last term.
Should United return with an improved offer and successfully sign Mbeumo, it may prompt departures in their current attacking ranks to accommodate the new arrivals.
