Ferguson Involved in Moyes Sacking and Search for New United Boss
Sir Alex Ferguson, the legendary former Manchester United manager, reportedly played a key role in the dismissal of David Moyes this week, despite having handpicked him as his successor less than a year ago.
According to The Times, Ferguson gave his approval to Moyes’ sacking, following a dismal season that saw the defending Premier League champions fall well short of expectations. The BBC also reports that the Scotsman will be involved in identifying the club’s next manager, as part of a broader consultation within the United board.
Moyes’ tenure lasted just 10 months, with United languishing in seventh place at the time of his departure — their lowest league finish in the Premier League era appearing increasingly inevitable.
As speculation intensifies around the next managerial appointment, current Netherlands boss Louis van Gaal has emerged as a leading candidate, alongside Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti.
In the meantime, club legends Ryan Giggs and Nicky Butt have taken temporary charge of first-team duties as United look to stabilise before a permanent appointment is made.
