Manchester United are making a serious move for Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta, with negotiations underway over a potential transfer.
United’s scouts have been monitoring the French forward closely this season, including during Palace’s FA Cup victory against Millwall. However, Mateta’s involvement in that match was cut short following a nasty clash with Millwall goalkeeper Liam Roberts, which left him requiring 25 stitches.
According to L’Equipe, the Red Devils have now begun formal talks with Crystal Palace to determine a transfer fee. Mateta remains under contract at Selhurst Park until 2027, meaning the Eagles are in no rush to sell. However, they are open to a deal if their £40 million valuation is met.
The 26-year-old initially joined Palace on an 18-month loan from Mainz in January 2021, with the London club paying a €3 million loan fee. They exercised their option to make the move permanent in January 2022 for an additional €15 million.
Mateta is said to be keen on a fresh challenge, with Old Trafford emerging as a potential destination.
