Manchester United have reportedly submitted a player-swap proposal to Napoli in their attempt to sign Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen this summer.
As reported by Kiss Kiss Radio, the Premier League side is understood to have offered striker Rasmus Højlund in a direct exchange, alongside an additional €40 million in cash, to secure Osimhen’s signature.
The Serie A club is currently weighing the offer but has yet to publicly respond.
Osimhen, who is valued at €70 million according to Transfermarkt, has enjoyed a prolific campaign, scoring 36 goals and providing eight assists in 40 appearances during a loan spell at Galatasaray.
The 26-year-old’s performances have further cemented his reputation as one of Europe’s most lethal forwards, making him a highly sought-after target in the transfer window.
His current salary stands at €10 million per year, equivalent to 6.5 billion CFA francs, a figure that United would be prepared to meet as part of a potential deal.
Napoli, who are expected to undergo significant changes this summer following a disappointing domestic season, are open to parting ways with their star striker, but only on terms that reflect his market value and impact.
The inclusion of Højlund, United’s 21-year-old Danish striker, adds a layer of intrigue to the negotiation, as the youngster was signed just last season and is seen as a long-term prospect at Old Trafford.
Højlund, while showing flashes of promise in his debut campaign, has yet to fully establish himself in the Premier League.
Napoli, known for nurturing attacking talent, may view him as a valuable asset for the future, particularly if paired with a significant financial incentive.
The proposed transfer has sparked debate in Nigeria and across Europe.
Former Super Eagles coach Samson Siasia has expressed caution, stating, “Osimhen to Manchester United is a risky bet.” The striker’s potential move to England would mark a significant career step, with questions around how he might adapt to the Premier League’s physical and tactical demands.
While United are not alone in their pursuit of Osimhen, their willingness to offer a swap deal highlights the urgency to bolster their attacking options.
As speculation intensifies, the coming weeks could prove decisive in determining whether the Nigerian goal machine will be leading the line at Old Trafford next season.
