Manchester United are reportedly facing a big problem in the pursuit of Nigeria international Victor Osimhen ahead of the summer transfer window.
Osimhen is set for a permanent departure from Napoli at the end of the season, with several clubs expressing interest in the attacker.
The highly-rated attacker has glitter for Galatasaray, racking 20 goals in 22 appearances in the Turkish top-flight. With a permanent move to the Turkish side looking impossible, Osimhen will return to Napoli at the end of his loan spell in June.
Napoli has slapped a €70 million transfer fee on Osimhen as the club seek to cash in on the Nigeria attacker this summer.
Manchester United, who are keen to strengthen their attack are said to be ready to meet Napoli’s asking price, but the real stumbling block could be the 26-year-old’s salary, with Osimhen likely to demand wages in excess of €200,000-per-week.
Despite additional interest from the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal, the total financial package for Osimhen may prove too substantial for Premier League sides. However, Osimhen could end up moving to the Saudi Pro League instead.
The Red Devils are likely to turn to a cheaper alternatives to Osimhen due to his demands.
Osimhen would be United’s ideal target in their search for a goalscorer with pedigree and experience, particularly with the player keen to make the move to England.
However, United will be operating under tight constraints this summer while also looking to lower their wage bill and the club look to alternatives unless a significant financial concession is made by either Napoli or Osimhen.
