Manchester United are reportedly plotting a bold move to land Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen by including Dutch forward Joshua Zirkzee in a player-plus-cash deal.
Zirkzee, 23, joined United this summer from Bologna for €42.5 million but has struggled to adapt to the Premier League, scoring just once in 16 appearances. New manager Ruben Amorim is said to be unconvinced by the striker’s potential and is open to offloading him.
Italian outlet Il Matino claims United see Osimhen as a perfect solution to their attacking woes. Napoli, Osimhen’s parent club, may be tempted by Zirkzee’s proven Serie A pedigree and a lucrative cash sum. The Nigerian international, currently on loan at Galatasaray, is reportedly keen to move on, increasing the likelihood of a deal.
However, United face stiff competition from Newcastle United and Chelsea, both of whom have also expressed interest in Osimhen. Napoli’s willingness to negotiate could hinge on their evaluation of Zirkzee and whether they view the swap as beneficial to their long-term plans.
The January transfer window could bring a fascinating twist to this saga.
