Manchester United are reportedly leading the race to secure the services of Franco-Algerian talent as the summer transfer window approaches.
The Premier League giants are seeking to strengthen their squad for the new season following an inconsistent performance this campaign.
Cherki, who has performed admirably for Lyon this season has emerged as a top transfer target for Manchester United. The youngster was the hero for Lyon last week, scoring in the dying moments to level the score against the Red Devils in the Europa League.
According to reports, Manchester United has been monitoring the 21-year-old for a long time. The club showed interest in Cherki since he was 16 and even considered signing him into the academy under Nicky Butt’s leadership.
However, the player decided to stay in France and signed his first professional contract with Lyon and developed to become a top player for the club.
With his progress and consistent performances, the Red Devils will be looking forward to securing his services in the summer. The Premier League giants are said to be the front-runners to sign Cherki and is expected to cost around £20 million.
Other Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham, Aston Villa, and Newcastle, have also shown interest in Cherki. However, United currently appears to be the leading contender for the player’s signature.
Cherki has 178 appearances for Lyon, in which he has scored 27 goals and provided 43 assists.
