Manchester United demand €50m for Onana as Trabzonspor rule out permanent deal
Manchester United have reportedly set a €50 million asking price for goalkeeper Andre Onana, a figure that has left officials at Trabzonspor surprised.
Trabzonspor vice-president Zeyyat Kafkas revealed that the Turkish club were taken aback by the valuation placed on the Cameroon international, who joined them on loan last summer after losing his starting role at Old Trafford.
Onana, who arrived at Manchester United in 2023 for around €50 million, struggled to justify his hefty price tag. A series of costly mistakes saw him lose his place in the team, first to Altay Bayindir and later to new signing Senne Lammens.
Although it initially appeared that Onana might remain at United, the goalkeeper opted to move to Trabzonspor once it became clear he would spend much of the season on the bench or outside the matchday squad.
The loan deal, however, does not include an option or obligation to buy, meaning the 29-year-old is expected to return to Manchester United at the end of the season. While Trabzonspor were thought to be considering a permanent move, Kafkas has indicated that such a deal is unlikely.
According to the Trabzonspor executive, Manchester United are demanding as much as €50 million for the goalkeeper. He described the figure as unrealistic, especially given that Onana’s current Estimated Transfer Value stands at around €16 million.
Kafkas also suggested that the goalkeeper is more interested in continuing his career in England or moving to another top European league, further reducing the chances of a permanent stay in Turkey.
