Premier League outfit Manchester United have backed off a move for German-Ivorian defender Jonathan Tah as the summer transfer window approaches.
Tah is leaving Bayer Leverkusen at the end of the season after failing to extend his contract with the club. However, the highly-rated defender has emerged as a top transfer target for several clubs across Europe.
Despite being linked with a move to England, the defender will not be heading to Manchester United. The defender, according to former Manchester United scout Mick Brown doesn’t fit into Ruben Amorim’s style and would not be signed by the English outfit.
“Tah won’t be a target for Man United. He’s proven himself at Bayer and is highly rated; many clubs admire his profile. He’s a strong leader and very experienced, so of course there is interest in him.
The problem for United is that he’s a big, powerful, strong defender, and that’s not the type they want for Amorim’s team. His agent has mentioned his name more than once and has spoken with clubs all over Europe.
He’s working on promoting him to clubs like Real Madrid and Bayern, so United will also be aware of his availability. But I don’t see it happening—he’ll move to one of the other clubs,” Mick Brown, a former Manchester United scout told Football Insider.
