MANCHESTER CITY- YAYA TOURÉ: “PROUD TO BE AFRICAN”

Yaya Toure 300x180 1

Yaya Touré is enjoying a stellar season with Manchester City, showcasing exceptional performances on the field. With 18 goals and five assists, the Ivorian midfielder is undoubtedly experiencing the peak of his career. Despite his remarkable achievements, Touré feels that he is not always judged fairly as an African player.

In an interview with Football Focus for the BBC, Touré expressed his frustration about not receiving the recognition he deserves. He referenced comments made by his teammate Samir Nasri, who stated, “If Yaya Touré wasn’t African, everyone would say he’s the best midfielder in the world.” Touré acknowledged the truth in Nasri’s words and admitted to feeling a sense of discontent.

Touré highlighted the lack of media recognition for African players and shared his belief that there is a prevailing perception of Africans as inferior. However, he emphasized his pride in being African and his determination to challenge stereotypes. Touré aspires to demonstrate to the world that African players can achieve greatness on par with their European and South American counterparts.
