Manchester City winger Jeremy Monga joins Swansea City on season-long loan

Manchester City winger Jeremy Monga has joined Swansea City on a season-long loan, with the Championship club hoping the teenager can gain regular first-team football.

The 17-year-old moved to Swansea after Manchester City signed him from Leicester City last month for about £10m, according to reports. Monga has agreed a five-year contract with Manchester City that will keep him at the club until 2031.

The teenager was included in Manchester City’s first-team squad during pre-season and was reunited with Enzo Maresca, who worked with him briefly while managing Leicester City. However, the Premier League club has decided that a loan spell in the Championship represents the best next step in his development.

Monga will wear number 12 for Swansea, who currently lead the Championship with 10 points from their opening four matches. They have won three games and drawn one, with their most recent result a 2-0 victory over Watford on Tuesday evening.

Swansea manager Vitor Matos said the club were delighted to have secured a player he believes has unusual qualities for his age.

“Jeremy is a very exciting young player, and he possesses abilities that are unusual for a player of his age,” Matos told Swansea’s official website.

“He has gained a lot of experience in first-team football and the Championship, and he has shown great confidence and an ability to influence matches at this level. We are very happy that he and Manchester City chose Swansea as a place where he can continue to develop and improve, and we are really looking forward to seeing what he can bring to the group.”

Monga must receive a Fifa exemption from regulations concerning the registration of minor players before he can represent Swansea. The club said that requirement is linked both to his age and to the fact the move is classed as an international loan under Fifa rules, because it involves a transfer between England and Wales.

That means it remains unclear whether Monga will be available for Swansea’s Welsh derby against Wrexham on Saturday.

Monga arrived at Swansea regarded as one of the leading young talents in the United Kingdom. He made history in April 2025 when he became the second-youngest player ever to appear in the Premier League, making his Leicester City debut at only 15 years old.

Three months later, he became the youngest player to start a match for Leicester City in the EFL Cup. Days afterwards, he broke Jude Bellingham’s record to become the youngest goalscorer in Championship history, scoring at the age of 16 years and 37 days.

Manchester City’s decision to send him to Swansea is intended to give Monga more opportunities to play senior football as he continues his progress. His immediate involvement, however, will depend on Fifa approval of his registration.
