Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is worried about the unavailability of Egypt star Omar Marmoush due to the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Marmoush’s return to Manchester City has prolonged due to the Pharaohs exploits at the continental showpiece in Morocco.
The North African giants, who are seeking for their eighth AFCON title are in the semi-final of the tournament, setting up a fierce clash against Senegal on Wednesday, January 14, 2025.
The forward will now return to his club at the closure of the tournament, with the possibility of Egypt featuring in the final of the third place this weekend.
Speaking after his outfit 2-0 victory over Newcastle United, Guardiola expressed a strong desire to have Marmoush back to the team in an attempt to give his Norwegian teammate Erling Haaland rest.
“I know the situation they are facing in defense, and it won’t be easy. I hope Omar returns as soon as possible so we can give Erling some rest because Haaland is very tired, and in this case, we have to overcome it together as a team, and that’s the most important thing.”
Manchester City’s next match is against their fierce rivals, Manchester United, at Old Trafford in a highly anticipated Premier League clash.
