Manchester United are reportedly prioritising a summer move for Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap, placing him ahead of Napoli’s Victor Osimhen in their transfer plans.
According to transfer expert David Ornstein, Delap, 22, is now United’s number one attacking target for the upcoming window.
The English forward has a £30 million release clause in his contract, which will become active if Ipswich are relegated from the Premier League.
The clause has reportedly drawn interest from several Premier League clubs, including Chelsea, Arsenal, and Newcastle United.
Delap, formerly of Manchester City, has made a strong impression in his debut top-flight season, scoring 12 goals and providing two assists in 32 league appearances.
“In the striker position, it’s Liam Delap of Ipswich Town as their number one target,” Ornstein said during a segment on NBC Sports Soccer.
“He has a £30 million release clause if Ipswich are relegated. There are other suitors for him, including Chelsea. I think Liam Delap will decide before the European U21 Championships on where he wants to go.”
Delap’s blend of physicality, movement, and finishing has drawn praise from scouts and pundits alike, and his profile appears to align with the type of younger, cost-effective talents Manchester United are aiming to build around as they restructure their squad.
Meanwhile, suggestions linking United with Victor Osimhen have been dismissed.
The Nigerian international, who has been widely expected to leave Napoli this summer, is reportedly not being considered by the Old Trafford hierarchy.
“If Manchester United are to look at others, I’m assured it will NOT be Victor Osimhen despite reports you might be reading. He is not on the agenda for Manchester United,” Ornstein added.
