Manchester City, the reigning Premier League champions, are gearing up to defend their title — and their captain Vincent Kompany knows the importance of a strong start, especially against Newcastle in their opening fixture. Despite a somewhat disrupted preseason due to the late return of several World Cup participants, Kompany insists the squad is focused and determined.
The Belgian defender acknowledged the challenge ahead, saying:
“We are all ready, even if there is still a question mark over our fitness. If we get through it, it will send an important message to other teams.”
City face a tough stretch in their opening five games, including clashes with title rivals Liverpool, Arsenal, and Chelsea — meaning there’s little room for error early on.
Kompany also took a moment to highlight the impact of veteran midfielder Frank Lampard, who joined on loan from New York City FC:
“He seems in top form and is incredible in training.”
City will be counting on both experience and depth as they aim to set the tone for another dominant campaign.
