Destiny Udogie contemplates long-term midfield role at Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur are resolute in their decision to keep left-back Destiny Udogie, despite reported interest from Manchester City, who are seeking a replacement for the departing Kyle Walker.

Udogie, 22, was born in Verona, Italy, to Nigerian parents, has emerged as a pivotal figure in manager Ange Postecoglou’s squad, especially during a season marred by injuries.

Since joining Spurs from Udinese in 2022 for an initial £15 million, Udogie has showcased consistent performances, solidifying his role within the team.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City have identified Udogie as a potential addition to bolster their defense, particularly with the anticipated departures of Kyle Walker and Kevin De Bruyne at the season’s end.

While defender Joško Gvardiol has demonstrated versatility across the backline, City manager Pep Guardiola is keen on securing a dedicated left-back to ensure depth and stability.

Tottenham, currently positioned 14th in the Premier League and eliminated from domestic cup competitions, view Udogie as integral to their future plans.

The club is reportedly determined to retain him, recognizing his potential contributions in upcoming campaigns.

However, Udogie’s aspirations for silverware might influence his considerations, given Tottenham’s current trajectory.
