Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye has predicted doom for South African powerhouse Mamelodi Sundowns, saying the Brazilian will not win a single game at the FIFA Club World Cup.
Sundowns are paired in Group F against Ulsan HD, Fluminense and Borussia Dortmund at the expanded Club World Cup being held at the USA.
As the team gear up for their opening fixture against Ulsan HD on June 18, Junior Khanye has raised concerns about Sundowns capabilities.
“Remember, clubs like Fluminense have players such as Thiago Silva on their books. We are talking about top-class teams with massive budgets. We’re talking about brilliant individual players. This is a tournament featuring clubs like Real Madrid, with the best players in the world, such as Kylian Mbappé”
“Yes, the Sundowns are a strong team, and they have players who represent Bafana Bafana, but they are good for continental football. It’s great that they’re representing South Africa, but we have to be honest—the Club World Cup is a level too high for them. This is a different tier”
“This tournament will bring huge pressure. I expect the Sundowns to lose by a margin of three or four goals. I regret having to say this, but I must be honest—they won’t win a single match at this Club World Cup,” Khanye told KickOff in an interview.
