Mamelodi Sundowns, the South African football club, clinched their spot in the quarterfinals of the 2023/24 African Champions League after defeating Mauritania’s FC Nouadhibou 2-0 on Saturday evening.
The victory was secured at the De La Capitale Stadium in Nouakchott, Mauritania, as part of the group stage’s fifth round.
Granwald Scott opened the scoring for the visitors in the 21st minute, with Thembinkosi Lorch adding another goal in the 90+1 minute.
With this result, Sundowns solidified their place in the quarterfinals, topping Group A with 10 points, level with Congo’s TP Mazembe, who defeated Egypt’s Pyramids FC 3-0.
Both Sundowns and Mazembe have secured their advancement to the knockout stages.
Unfortunately, Pyramids FC and FC Nouadhibou have bid farewell to the 2023/24 African Champions League after collecting four points each from five matches in the group stage.
