Mamelodi Sundowns name starting XI for Siwelele clash as Betway Premiership lead beckons
Mamelodi Sundowns have named their starting XI for Wednesday evening’s Betway Premiership meeting with struggling Siwelele FC at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.
The Brazilians moved to the top of the table on Sunday after Teboho Mokoena’s late goal secured a 2-1 victory over Golden Arrows.
With Orlando Pirates not playing in the league this week, Sundowns have the opportunity to open up a six-point advantage at the summit. They could then extend that lead to nine points by the end of the weekend.
Sundowns face a Siwelele side searching for a change in fortunes. The Bloemfontein-based club’s winless run reached five matches on Sunday when they were beaten by Kaizer Chiefs.
That defeat was followed by the departures of head coach Lehlohonolo Seema and assistant coach Willem Jackson.
Sundowns team news
Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has selected Ronwen Williams in goal, with the defensive line featuring Khuliso Mudau, Grant Kekana, Aubrey Modiba and Terrence Mashego.
Teboho Mokoena starts in midfield alongside Sphelele Mkhulise, while Thapelo Morena, Lucas Ribeiro and Peter Shalulile will lead the attacking options.
Mamelodi Sundowns’ starting XI is: Williams, Ndamane, Khoza, Mdunyelwa, Modiba, Mokoena, Mkhulise, Letlhaku, Van Wyk, Mailula, Leon.
The substitutes are Goss, Mvala, Morena, Basadien, Allende, Zwane, Ndlovu, Matthews and Rayners.
Siwelele FC are yet to confirm their starting line-up for the match.
The fixture gives Sundowns the chance to build on the momentum of their narrow win against Golden Arrows and strengthen their position at the top of the Betway Premiership.
Siwelele, meanwhile, arrive at Loftus Versfeld Stadium after a difficult run of results and with the club having made changes to its coaching staff following the loss to Kaizer Chiefs.
