Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has opened up on the future of South African youngster Tapelo Maseko, insisting the 21-year-old is part of his plans.

Despite speculation about Maseko’s possible departure, the Spanish tactician affirms the enterprising winger will remain at the club.

Cardoso sees Maseko as an ideal replacement for Lucas Ribeiro, who is facing an uncertain future at the club amid growing summer interest.

“He is a Mamelodi Sundowns player, he is part of the team. And from what I see within the club, I don’t see any intention to let him go. Of course, he is working well, but when you don’t have Lucas Ribeiro, who usually plays on the right side where he could also feature, it opens up more opportunities for players who can operate in those positions, and obviously he is fighting hard to claim his place,” said Cardoso.

Maseko has been in the books of Sundowns since 2023, but is yet to establish himself as a key cog to the team.

With Cardoso expressing huge believe in the forward, Maseko will be hoping to command regular playing time at the club.
