Mamadou Thiam: U Cluj linked with move for FCSB’s Franco-Senegalese forward

Franco-Senegalese centre-forward Mamadou Thiam of Romanian side FCSB is being linked with a switch to SuperLiga rivals U Cluj, with the 31-year-old’s future uncertain and his contractual situation raising the prospect he could yet become a free agent.

Reports in Romania suggest U Cluj are monitoring Thiam’s availability, with the deal currently rated at an unclear probability (“?”) and no formal agreement in place. Transfermarkt lists his market value at €650k, but with no public record of a fixed contract expiry date at FCSB, there is speculation that a move could be structured either as a low-cost transfer or a potential free-agent capture if his deal is close to running down.

Thiam, who wears the number 93 shirt at FCSB, is a right-footed centre-forward standing 1.80m tall and is eligible for both Senegal and France. Born in Aubervilliers on 20 March 1995, he moved to the Bucharest club after spells across Europe, and has become a familiar presence in the Romanian SuperLiga. He is primarily used through the middle in an attacking role, though his profile has allowed coaches to deploy him in various positions across the front line.

The forward’s recent performances for FCSB in the SuperLiga have helped maintain his valuation, although detailed season statistics and a standout recent match – including opponent, date, scoreline and his individual contribution – have not been disclosed in the current data.

With U Cluj seeking experienced attacking options for the new campaign, Thiam’s profile, price bracket and potential free-agent status make him an intriguing target. If the move materialises, it could offer the Franco-Senegalese striker a fresh platform in Romania to reassert his scoring touch and shape the next phase of his career.
