Mamadou Sylla: Centre-forward linked with move to Latvian side Daugavpils

Mamadou Sylla has completed a loan move from RFS to fellow Virsliga side Daugavpils, with the deal running from 2026-03-05 to 2026-12-31. The Ivorian centre-forward joins on a temporary basis, with his loan scheduled to end with a return to RFS at the conclusion of the agreement.

The transfer keeps the 20-year-old within the Latvian top flight and ensures he will continue to feature in the Virsliga rather than returning to his home country, Côte d’Ivoire. The move is formally registered as a loan transfer, with RFS remaining his parent club throughout the spell. At the time of the switch, Sylla’s market value is listed at €50k, underlining his status as a developing prospect rather than a finished article.

Sylla arrives at Daugavpils after a period of movement within Latvia. Having initially joined FC RFS II from an unknown club, he earned promotion to the RFS first team before being loaned out to SK Super Nova. That loan ended with his return to RFS, who have now opted to send him back out, this time to Daugavpils, in search of further first-team opportunities. All of these moves have taken place inside the Virsliga structure, giving him continuity in league level and competition.

A left-footed centre-forward standing 1.83m tall, Sylla is listed primarily as an attacking player through the middle. His role at Daugavpils is expected to focus on adding depth and competition in the final third, while giving him sustained minutes to develop within Latvia’s top division. With his contract at Daugavpils fixed to end on 2026-12-31, his medium-term future beyond that date remains tied to RFS, and any change of status, including the possibility of becoming a free agent, would depend on decisions taken once the loan expires.

Born on 05 Dec 2005, Sylla is still at an early stage of his professional career, but his rapid progression through the Latvian system indicates that he has adapted quickly to European football. His time at SK Super Nova and RFS, plus this new spell at Daugavpils, means he will have accumulated experience at multiple Virsliga clubs before turning 21.

For Daugavpils, the acquisition of a young striker with top-division experience and a defined market valuation represents a low-risk way to strengthen the squad. For RFS, the loan offers a pathway for regular competitive action without permanently losing control of his contract. The coming months in Daugavpils will be decisive in determining whether his value rises and what his long-term role in Latvian football will be once the loan ends on 2026-12-31.
