Mali international Mamadou Fofana is poised to embark on a new adventure, swapping Ligue 2 for Major League Soccer as he joins New England Revolution in a €1.7m transfer.
The 26-year-old SC Amiens defender, capped 42 times for Mali, will sign a three-year contract with the Boston-based club, according to L’Équipe.
Fofana has been a stalwart for Amiens since arriving from FC Metz three-and-a-half years ago in a €2m deal. During his tenure, he clocked 142 appearances, solidifying his reputation as a reliable centre-back in the French second tier. With 146 Ligue 2 matches and 37 Ligue 1 appearances under his belt, the experienced defender is ready to test himself on American soil.
While Fofana’s move is confirmed, he won’t officially join New England Revolution until January. Until then, he remains committed to Amiens, helping them push through the season until the winter break in December. His transition marks a significant step for both the player and the MLS club, as they welcome a seasoned international defender with top-flight experience.
