Mamadou Diop: AJ Auxerre eye move for Grenobles Mauritania-Senegal goalkeeper
Mamadou Diop, the Mauritania-Senegal goalkeeper currently at Ligue 2 side Grenoble, is being linked with a summer move to Ligue 1 club AJ Auxerre.
The 26-year-old, born in Guediawaye and standing at 2.04m, has emerged as a target for Auxerre as they assess options in goal. The rumour, logged on 4 July with the move probability listed as ?, suggests initial interest rather than advanced talks, with no fee or contract agreement reported.
Diops contractual situation at Grenoble is unclear, with no expiry date publicly listed. That uncertainty has prompted suggestions he could potentially become a free agent if no extension is in place, a factor which would significantly influence any deal. His current estimated market value is 1.50m, according to Transfermarkt.
The goalkeeper has been on Grenobles books since July 2022, having arrived from FC Chambly Oise after a season there, following earlier spells with FC Gueugnon and Istres Football Clubs U19 side. All of his senior club career so far has been in France, progressing from youth and lower divisions into the professional ranks.
Diops value has risen sharply in recent seasons. From 50,000 at Chambly in December 2021, it climbed steadily to 150,000 in mid-2022, dipped slightly after his move to Grenoble, and then increased markedly from 2024 onwards. By March 2026 his valuation had stabilised at 1.50m, reflecting his growing status.
Recent performances have kept scouts attentive, although detailed individual statistics have not been disclosed. Grenobles latest competitive outing came in Ligue 2 against an unnamed opponent earlier this year, and Diop featured again as first-choice goalkeeper in a season that has underpinned his current valuation.
With dual nationality for Mauritania and Senegal and a profile still on the rise, a switch from Grenoble to top-flight Auxerre would mark a significant step up if it materialises, offering Diop the chance to test himself at a higher level and further enhance his reputation in French football.
