At 22, Mamadou Coulibaly is gradually establishing himself as one of the young players to watch at AS Monaco. The Mali midfielder has impressed with his energy, aggression in challenges and ability to operate in several positions, while his recent displays have begun to attract interest from clubs across Europe.
Developed at La Diagonale
Born in Paris in 2004, Coulibaly joined AS Monaco’s academy, La Diagonale, in the summer of 2019.
Before moving to the Principality, he played for several clubs in the Paris region, including Sevran, Villepinte and Epinay. He then progressed through Monaco’s youth system before signing his first professional contract in 2022.
His development was rewarded with a first official appearance for the senior team at the beginning of 2024.
A combative and versatile midfielder
Coulibaly’s game extends beyond his ability to win possession. A left-footed player standing 1.79m tall, he is particularly noted for his intensity, work-rate and willingness to put opponents under pressure.
He has mainly been used in central midfield or in a defensive midfield role, but can also move forward and operate in certain positions on either flank. That flexibility is considered one of his main strengths.
During AS Monaco’s European play-offs, Coulibaly made a notable impact after being named player of the match. He also contributed goals and assists during those fixtures.
European clubs monitoring his progress
His performances are now attracting attention beyond Monaco. Atletico de Madrid, Napoli, Newcastle and Brentford are among the clubs following the young midfielder’s development.
AS Monaco, meanwhile, are keen to protect their investment and retain Coulibaly for the long term. He is under contract until 2028, but the club are reportedly working on an extension that would run until 2030.
The Monaco midfielder is valued by the club at between 35 and 40 million euros. His current market value is estimated at 20 million euros by Transfermarkt.
AS Monaco will soon play their sixth-round French championship match against Toulouse.
