Malian midfielder Mahamadou Doumbia undergoes successful ACL surgery
Mali international Mahamadou Doumbia has been ruled out for the remainder of the current campaign after undergoing a successful knee surgery.
The 21-year-old midfielder, who plies his trade for Al Ittihad suffered an injury setback in the Saudi Arabian King’s Cup fixture in March.
After further evaluation, the club announced that Doumbia required surgical intervention to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).
Doumbia underwent surgery last Friday in Lyon, under the supervision of renowned orthopedic specialist Bertrand Sonnery-Cottet. The procedure was reported to have gone successfully, offering hope for a full recovery despite the lengthy rehabilitation process ahead.
Doumbia will now begin an intensive recovery programme, working closely with both the surgical team and Ittihad Club’s medical staff. ACL injuries typically require several months of rehabilitation, effectively ruling the midfielder out for the remainder of the campaign.
His absence is a significant blow for Ittihad, with the Malian having been an important figure in the squad prior to his injury. Known for his energy, physical presence, and ability to control the midfield, Doumbia’s loss will be keenly felt as the team pushes through the final stretch of the season.
For the player, attention now shifts to recovery and regaining full fitness, with hopes of returning stronger ahead of the next campaign.
