Malian international Brahim Konaté has signed a contract with Azerbaijani Premier League side Zira FK, following the end of his stint with FC Shamakhi.
The 29-year-old midfielder enjoyed a strong 2023–2024 season with Shamakhi, featuring in 30 matches, scoring nine goals, and delivering three assists.
His performances earned him widespread recognition and ultimately paved the way for his move to Zira FK, where he has signed a deal running until 2027.
Konaté’s consistency and ability to contribute both defensively and in attack made him one of the standout players for Shamakhi during the campaign.
Zira FK were quick to act once he became a free agent, aiming to reinforce their midfield with a player of proven experience in Azerbaijani football.
Trained at AJ Auxerre in France, Konaté began his professional career in Ligue 2, where he spent several years honing his game.
He later moved to Switzerland to play for FC Niort and also had a spell in Spain, gaining valuable experience across different European footballing cultures.
His career path reflects both adaptability and ambition, having navigated through multiple competitive environments.
Whether deployed as a deep-lying playmaker or in a more advanced midfield role, Konaté has demonstrated an ability to read the game, link up play, and contribute with goals when needed.
Zira FK’s decision to secure the Malian’s signature underscores the club’s intent to build a balanced and experienced squad.
After a transitional period last season, the club is seeking stability and upward momentum in the league standings, and Konaté’s arrival is seen as a significant part of that effort.
Despite being outside the top five European leagues, Konaté has consistently proven his value on the pitch.
His technical skills, combined with tactical discipline, make him a valuable asset in a team structure that demands reliability and creativity.
With his move now official, Konaté is expected to join Zira FK’s pre-season preparations later this summer.
The club will hope that his leadership and on-field presence will play a crucial role in their push for a stronger showing in the 2024–2025 campaign.
For Konaté, the deal marks both a fresh challenge and a continuation of a career built on hard work and perseverance.
Having already made an impression in Azerbaijan, he now has the platform to further establish himself as one of the league’s most influential midfielders.
