Malian forward Abdoulaye Gory in contract extension talks with Stade de Reims

Stade de Reims is in discussions to extend the contract of Malian forward Abdoulaye Gory, whose current deal is set to expire this summer.

Negotiations are currently underway between the 22-year-old and the Ligue 1 club’s management to trigger a two-year extension clause in his contract.

Gory joined Reims in the summer of 2023 from Malian side Afrique Football Élite and is looking to continue his development with the French club.

Though he has yet to feature for Reims’ senior team in Ligue 1, Gory has been a consistent presence for the club’s reserve side competing in National 3, the fifth tier of French football.

Since his arrival, the Kayes-born striker has been steadily making his mark, with his performances drawing attention within the club’s ranks.

In 20 appearances for the Reims B team, Gory has found the net seven times, making him the second-highest scorer for the reserves this season.

He trails only fellow Malian forward Pape Niama Sissoko, who has scored 12 goals in 19 matches.

The duo has formed a familiar partnership up front, having previously played together at Afrique Football Élite before moving to France.

Gory’s adaptation to French football has been closely monitored by the coaching staff, who are believed to be encouraged by his progress.

His goal-scoring contributions and physical presence in the attacking third have strengthened his case for a potential future promotion to the first-team setup.

Sources close to the club suggest that both parties are keen on finalising the contract extension, which would allow Gory to continue his integration into the Reims project.

The option being discussed is part of the initial agreement signed when Gory made the move from Mali to France, and exercising it would secure his place at the club until the summer of 2027.

Despite not yet featuring at the top level, Gory has set his sights on breaking into the senior squad.

With Reims known for nurturing young talent, the forward remains hopeful that his continued development in the reserves will earn him an opportunity under the first-team management.

Gory’s journey mirrors that of many African prospects who transition from local academies to European clubs in search of top-flight football.

Afrique Football Élite, his former club, has established a reputation as one of Mali’s leading development academies and currently competes in the country’s Ligue 1.

As Reims continues to invest in youth development, retaining Gory could represent both a strategic and developmental move.

The club’s structure offers a clear pathway from the academy and reserve levels to the professional stage, with several players in recent years having successfully made the leap.

The coming weeks are expected to be decisive as final terms are discussed. Should the extension be agreed upon, it will mark a significant step in Abdoulaye Gory’s journey as he looks to transition from a promising reserve player to a contender for first-team football in France’s top division.
