Malian international Gaoussou Kyassou Diarra is finally closing in on a long-awaited return to action after a frustrating spell on the sidelines that began during the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The 23-year-old winger saw his tournament cut short at the end of December 2025 after sustaining a sprained right ankle during a training session with the Mali national team. The injury ruled him out before he could make his expected impact at the continental showpiece, forcing him to withdraw from the competition and begin a lengthy recovery process.
Since then, Diarra has endured more than a month away from competitive football, missing both international and club duties as he focused on regaining full fitness. His absence was keenly felt as he worked through rehabilitation, with caution taken to ensure he did not return prematurely.
There is now renewed optimism surrounding the Malian attacker, however, after he took a major step forward in his recovery this week. On Wednesday, 11 February 2026, Diarra rejoined his Feyenoord Rotterdam teammates in full training, participating in group sessions for the first time since the injury.
His return to collective training is a significant milestone and suggests that a comeback to competitive action could be imminent. If he continues to respond positively, the winger may soon be available for selection as Feyenoord look to reinforce their attacking options in the coming weeks.
After a difficult and interrupted start to the year, Diarra will be eager to put his injury troubles behind him and regain momentum at club level, with both Feyenoord and the Mali national team hoping to see him back at his best.
