Abdoulaye Doucouré has announced he will leave Everton at the end of the season, bringing to a close a five-year chapter with the Premier League club.
The 31-year-old Mali international confirmed his departure in a video message shared on Tuesday, 20 May 2025, expressing gratitude for his time with the Toffees and signalling the start of a new chapter in his career.
“Hi Evertonians. I just wanted to let you know that I’m leaving the club at the end of the season. After five wonderful years, my time at Everton is coming to an end,” Doucouré said in his farewell message. “Everton means a lot to me. I’m obviously sad to be leaving, but I think the time has come for me and the club to start a new chapter. I will always be grateful.”
Doucouré joined Everton in 2020 from Watford and quickly became a key figure in the club’s midfield.
Known for his strength, dynamism, and consistent performances in both attacking and defensive roles, the Malian international earned the respect of teammates and supporters alike.
Over five seasons, he played an instrumental role in helping Everton maintain their Premier League status through challenging campaigns.
His time at Goodison Park marks the longest stint of his professional career with a single club.
Having previously spent four years apiece at Stade Rennais and Watford, Doucouré established himself at Everton as a dependable and often decisive presence in the centre of the pitch.
Ahead of what is expected to be his final appearance in Everton colours this Sunday, Doucouré has amassed 165 appearances, scoring 21 goals and providing 14 assists.
His contributions were often vital, especially during seasons when the club faced relegation battles and leaned on experienced players to navigate turbulent periods.
Though his exit coincides with the end of his contract in June 2025, Doucouré departs with his legacy at the Merseyside club firmly intact.
His leadership in the dressing room and his performances on the pitch have left a lasting impact on the club during one of its most transitional periods in recent history.
As he prepares for his next move, Doucouré’s departure leaves a significant void in Everton’s midfield, and his experience will be missed as the club looks to rebuild and push forward into the 2025–26 campaign.
