Paris Saint-Germain teenager Mahamadou Sangare is on the verge of completing a move to Manchester City, with the 18-year-old striker expected to undergo his medical this week ahead of signing a long-term deal.
The Mali-born youngster, one of the most promising prospects in PSG’s youth ranks, is set to leave the French champions as a free agent after failing to break into the first team.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the news, stating: “18-year-old striker Mahamadou Sangare will undergo a medical with Manchester City.
“He’s set to sign a long-term deal as Man City’s strategy is clear: sign and develop top young talents… Sangare leaves PSG on a free transfer to join #MCFC. Here we go, confirmed.”
Although Sangare began training with PSG’s senior squad in December, his path to regular first-team football has been blocked by a crowded field of emerging talents.
This was evident during the UEFA Champions League final, where fellow academy products Désiré Doué and Senny Mayulu impressed.
Anthony Vivien, chairman of Les Titis de PSG — the youth development body associated with the club — praised Sangare’s instincts and style.
“He’s a pure centre forward, a real scoring machine. Last year alone, he scored 32 goals in 35 games. He knows how to get lost in opposing defences, that’s his strength. He has a very good reading of the game from deep.”
Sangare’s goal-scoring instinct and positional awareness have drawn comparisons to City’s Erling Haaland.
However, the player himself admits to having a single-minded focus on scoring, a trait he acknowledges might require adaptation.
“Even if I don’t make assists, the most important thing for a striker is to score goals… But if I have a partner next to me who is well marked, I prefer to shift him and have him score too. It’s important.”
