Mali forward Almamy Gory leaves squad after injury assessment

Almamy Gory has withdrawn from the Mali squad after being ruled out of the remainder of the international break.

The winger was injured while playing for his club before joining up with the Aigles du Mali, but travelled to honour his selection and support the national team.

Following an assessment by the medical staff, Mali decided not to take any unnecessary risks. Gory has been allowed to return to his club, where he will follow a tailored treatment programme.

His decision to report for international duty despite his fitness concerns underlined his commitment to the Mali shirt. However, the player will miss the team’s final match against Morocco.
