Malang Sarr earns long awaited Senegal chance after standout Lens form

Malang Sarr is set to receive his first senior call-up for Senegal after a superb season with RC Lens, according to reports from journalist Santi Aouna.

The 27-year-old centre-back has been one of Lens’ most consistent performers and has repeatedly voiced his desire to represent the African champions.

Despite that ambition, former Senegal boss Aliou Cisse never selected him for the national team. Now, however, the situation appears to have changed, with Aouna stating: “Malang Sarr will be called up to the Senegal squad,” as the defender prepares to join the group for two friendlies in March.

Sarr is expected to feature against Peru on 28 March before facing Gambia three days later, offering him a first opportunity to stake his claim on the international stage.

Born and developed in France, he represented Les Bleus at youth level from under-16 to under-21, but has always been eligible for Senegal through his heritage.

His leadership and form at Lens have finally convinced the Senegal staff that he deserves a place in the squad, potentially opening a new chapter in his career.
