Former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Claude Makelele has praised head coach Luis Enrique for guiding the club to a historic treble, culminating in their first-ever UEFA Champions League title.
Makelele, who was born in Kinshasa, Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of Congo), and later represented France internationally, expressed his admiration for Enrique’s impact on the team.
“They have erased the mistakes made over the years and found someone who brought a soul, Luis Enrique,” Makelele said.
“Many criticised him, but I knew he was the ideal person. He took over the sports management and they gave him a certain freedom for two years, which is very rare.
“I really wish him success because he is a good person and he has helped all these young people to grow.”
Under Enrique’s leadership, PSG secured the Ligue 1 title, the Coupe de France, and capped the season with a commanding 5-0 victory over Inter Milan in the Champions League final.
Makelele’s comments highlight the transformation within PSG, moving away from reliance on individual stars to a more cohesive team approach.
The club’s success under Enrique marks a significant milestone, reflecting a strategic shift that emphasizes collective performance and long-term planning.
