Lille Confirm Interest in Ghanaian Striker Majeed Waris
By BBC Sport
Lille’s president Michel Seydoux has confirmed that the French club is closely monitoring Ghanaian forward Majeed Waris as they look to strengthen their squad this summer.
Speaking after Lille’s recent defeat to FC Porto, Seydoux told RMC: “Majeed Waris? He’s an interesting player. It’s better to say that than to be blunt and say he doesn’t interest us. He is on a list of players we’re following.”
Currently under contract with Russian side Spartak Moscow, Waris spent last season on loan at Valenciennes, where he netted nine goals in Ligue 1 despite the club’s relegation to Ligue 2.
Lille’s pursuit of Waris comes amid speculation over the future of Salomon Kalou, the Ivorian striker expected to join a German club in the coming days. The addition of Waris could help fill the void left by Kalou’s anticipated departure and bolster Lille’s attacking options ahead of the new season.
