Mahala Opoku: Panetolikos eye move for Ghana winger from Montréal

Ghanaian right winger Mahala Opoku of MLS side CF Montréal is being linked with a summer move to Greek Super League 1 outfit Panetolikos.

The 24-year-old, born in Accra and currently wearing the number 7 shirt in Montréal, is the subject of emerging transfer speculation, with reports in Greece suggesting Panetolikos are exploring a deal. Transfermarkt lists his market value at €400k, a figure likely to frame any negotiations.

Opoku’s contractual situation in Canada is unclear, with no public expiry date recorded. That uncertainty has fuelled suggestions Panetolikos could try to secure him on favourable terms, while the possibility of him running down his deal and moving as a free agent in a later window has not been ruled out. The reported probability of the transfer at this stage is listed simply as “?”, underlining how early the talks are.

A left-footed attacker who operates primarily as a right winger, Opoku stands at 1.72m and offers pace and direct dribbling from wide areas. He has built his profile in MLS with Montréal, having previously developed his career in North America after leaving Ghana, and is viewed as entering a key phase of his development at 24.

Recent appearances in MLS have kept him in the shop window, with Panetolikos’ scouts monitoring his form as they look to add attacking width for the new Super League 1 campaign. Specific match data has been used by the Greek club to assess his ability to stretch defences and operate in transition, although no formal bid has yet been reported.

If the move materialises, a switch from Montréal to Panetolikos could offer Opoku a first crack at European top-flight football and prove a pivotal step in shaping his reputation and long-term career trajectory.
