Madjid Bougherra warns rivals as Algeria A team prepares for title defence
Madjid Bougherra left Cairo with mixed emotions but a clear sense of direction for Algeria’s A’ team.
After a 3-2 defeat and a promising 0-0 draw against a strong Egypt side, the coach described the November camp as a turning point for his group.
“Very good camp, very fruitful for the staff and me, even for the players who lived it,” he said, stressing that facing an Egypt team built largely from their senior selection was the ideal test. “It’s in adversity that we can judge what works well and what we must correct for the Arab Cup.”
Bougherra praised Egypt’s tactical cohesion and movement, but highlighted his own players’ attitude: “Even tactically, I am very happy with the players over the two games. Very disciplined, very focused.”
After rotating widely, he now faces tough choices for a restricted 23-man list. “We gave everyone a chance… But we will have to make choices. Inch’Allah they are the right ones, many deserve it.” Aware that Algeria are defending champions, he warned: “Everyone will want to beat us… Talent is not enough. Talent in the service of the team, that is the key.”
