Speculation surrounding Alexis Mac Allister has intensified after the Liverpool midfielder appeared in a vintage Zinedine Zidane Real Madrid jersey, a gesture that has only sharpened focus on his uncertain future at Anfield.

The 2022 World Cup winner remains a key figure for Liverpool, yet there has been little progress on extending his contract, which has just over two years left to run. With the summer transfer window approaching, reports linking the Argentine to Madrid continue to gather momentum, particularly amid the absence of renewal talks.

His latest social media post, featuring the iconic white strip associated with Zidane’s era, has been widely interpreted as a subtle nod toward the Spanish giants. While such imagery can often be dismissed as harmless, the timing has raised eyebrows given the growing uncertainty around his long-term commitment to Liverpool.

Mac Allister’s performances have only strengthened Madrid’s reported interest. The midfielder has found the net in each of Liverpool’s last two victories over Los Blancos, underlining his ability to deliver on the biggest stage. That impact has not gone unnoticed in the Spanish capital, where recruitment plans continue to focus on technically gifted midfielders.

Despite the external noise, Mac Allister has maintained a measured stance regarding his future. Speaking after teammate Ryan Gravenberch signed a new deal, he acknowledged the Dutchman’s importance while clarifying his own situation.

“First of all I want to congratulate Ryan because it is really good for him and he deserves it. He’s been a really important player for us in the season that we won the Premier League, which is not easy at all.

“So congratulations to him. In terms of me, we are not in contract talks, but I am not in a rush and that is only a fact.”

Those remarks are unlikely to ease concerns among Liverpool supporters, particularly as the club has recently seen high-profile departures.

The exit of Trent Alexander-Arnold to Madrid last summer still lingers, and the possibility of another midfield cornerstone heading to the Bernabéu presents a familiar and troubling narrative.
