Lyon weigh move for AC Milan midfielder Youssouf Fofana

French-Malian midfielder Youssouf Fofana has been linked with a move from AC Milan to Lyon in Ligue 1.

The 27-year-old has yet to feature for Milan in Serie A this season, making no appearances in the opening two possible matches. A transfer to Lyon is currently assessed at 74%, although there is no indication that a deal has been completed.

Fofana remains under contract at San Siro until 30 June 2028. His current market value is listed at €23m, below the €26m Milan paid Monaco for him in August 2024.

The defensive midfielder has been part of Milan’s squad since that move and won the Italian Super Cup with the club during the 2024-25 season. He previously spent more than four years at Monaco after beginning his senior career with Strasbourg.

Fofana has also represented France and was part of the side that finished runners-up at the 2022 World Cup. His dual French and Malian nationality is reflected in his playing background, but his senior international honours listed here are with France.

For now, the midfielder remains a Milan player, with two years still left on his contract as Lyon’s reported interest emerges.
