Olympique Lyonnais is intensifying its pursuit of Slavia Prague defender Igoh Ogbu as the summer transfer window approaches.
The French club has reportedly reached an agreement with the 25-year-old Nigerian centre-back as they look to bolster their defensive options ahead of the new season.
Key defensive addition for Lyon
Ogbu, who previously played for Norwegian side Lillestrøm SK, has become an integral part of Slavia Prague’s backline.
Known for his commanding presence and tactical awareness, he has proven to be a reliable figure in defense.
This season, he has made 29 appearances and found the net twice, showcasing not only his defensive capabilities but also his threat during set-piece situations.
Financial hurdles in the deal
Lyon’s head coach, Paulo Fonseca, is eager to strengthen the club’s defensive structure and sees Ogbu as an ideal fit alongside Moussa Niakhaté and Clinton Mata.
However, negotiations with Slavia Prague present a challenge.
Ogbu remains under contract with the Czech club until December 2026, and his valuation stands at €8 million—an amount that could prove difficult for Lyon as the club navigates financial restructuring.
Interest from rival clubs
While Lyon is leading the race, other Ligue 1 clubs are also keeping a close watch on the Nigerian defender.
Both RC Lens and LOSC are reportedly monitoring his situation, potentially complicating Lyon’s efforts to finalize the deal.
With the transfer window looming, discussions between Lyon and Slavia Prague will be pivotal in determining whether Ogbu makes the switch to France this summer.
