At a press conference held this Wednesday ahead of the Europa League round of 16 second leg against Viktoria Plzen, Lyon’s coach provided an update on Gueida Fofana’s injury status. Fofana, the midfielder for the Gones, was forced off the pitch in the 53rd minute during Sunday’s match against Monaco due to adductor pain. Remi Garde announced that Fofana will be sidelined for “4 to 6 weeks.”
Expressing his disappointment, Garde stated, “It’s a significant setback for both the team and Gueïda.” Additionally, Lyon will also be without Samuel Umtiti for approximately a month due to a thigh injury.
Despite the setback, Fofana had displayed impressive form in the first leg against Viktoria Plzen, scoring two goals.
However, Lyon’s midfield may soon receive a boost with the imminent return of Steed Malbranque. Malbranque has resumed training with the club’s physical trainer, Robert Duverne, as of Tuesday morning.
