Former Nigeria U-23 international Luqman Gilmore has opened up about his decision to leave Armenian club FC Urartu and embark on a new chapter with Estonian side Paide Linnameeskond.
The 28-year-old midfielder, who impressed in his debut season in Armenia, opted not to extend his contract and instead moved on as a free agent during the winter transfer window.
Gilmore, who played a key role in FC Urartu’s UEFA Champions League qualifying campaign, had become a pivotal figure within the squad.
His performances attracted attention from several European clubs, making his departure a surprise to many fans and observers.
Contract dispute led to departure
In an exclusive interview with Africafoot, Gilmore shed light on why he chose not to renew his deal with FC Urartu, citing contractual disagreements as the main reason for his exit.
There are things that could have worked out better, yes. I didn’t stay at FC Urartu because the club didn’t respect my personal conditions in the new contract, and we couldn’t agree to move forward, he explained.
It led to too much back and forth, and time was running out.
Despite his contributions on the pitch, the negotiations failed to reach a resolution, prompting the Nigerian midfielder to explore other opportunities.

Gilmore, known for his versatility and composure in midfield, is now looking forward to making an impact in the Estonian Meistriliiga with Paide Linnameeskond.
The move provides him with a fresh challenge and the chance to compete in European competitions.
I am excited to try something new. My whole career, I have never been afraid of new challenges, he said. Paide Linnameeskond is an exciting team, one of the best clubs in the Estonian league, and they play in the Conference League qualifiers in the summer, so why not?”
Paide Linnameeskond, a club with growing ambitions, will be aiming to capitalize on Gilmore’s experience as they prepare for domestic and European competitions.
His arrival is expected to add depth and quality to their midfield, reinforcing their aspirations for success in the upcoming season.
