Luis Fernandez has officially been confirmed as the new coach of Guinea’s national football team. The former Paris Saint-Germain coach made the announcement during his show, Luis Attaque, on RMC. This will be his first coaching job on the African continent, and he is eager to take on the challenge.
In his statement, Fernandez expressed his longstanding admiration for Africa and emphasized how the opportunity to coach Guinea aligns well with both his professional journey and passion for the game. “I’ve always loved Africa,” Fernandez said. “Everything is coming together on both sides, even if it took a little while. I have professional commitments. I know a lot of players in this group, and I watch a lot of European football. There are players from everywhere — in Germany, in England.”
He also highlighted some of the talented players in the squad, including Florentin Pogba from Saint-Étienne and Traoré, who plays for Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Fernandez plans to work closely with his assistant Amara Simba, a former PSG player, and Kaba Diawara, who will serve as the sports coordinator. With such a strong support team, Fernandez is confident that Guinea has the potential to shine on the international stage.
This marks an exciting chapter for both Fernandez and Guinea, and the task now is to harness the team’s talent and build a winning formula for future competitions.
