Ethiopia has made a change in leadership, appointing Yohannes Sahle as the new head coach of the Walyas. This move comes after the sacking of Mariano Barreto, the Portuguese coach who was unable to guide the team to qualification for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.
Sahle, aged 49, is well familiar with Ethiopian football. A former player for the national team, he transitioned into coaching and has held various roles within Ethiopian football, including national technical director and coach of the U17 team. He also had a stint as the coach of Debedit club, gaining valuable managerial experience.
Ethiopia’s focus now turns to the 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifiers, where they are placed in a competitive group alongside Algeria, Lesotho, and Seychelles. With a new coach at the helm, there’s optimism that Ethiopia can revitalize their campaign and secure a spot in the continental tournament.
The transition offers hope that the Walyas can improve under the guidance of a coach who understands the dynamics of Ethiopian football, and they will now begin preparations with a fresh mindset.
