Algeria international Luca Zidane benched again as Granada struggle
Luca Zidane remained on the bench for a second consecutive match as Granada CF suffered another setback in the Spanish league.
The Algerian international, who is the national team’s first-choice goalkeeper, was again overlooked by his coach during the latest fixture, continuing a run of limited involvement at club level
. His absence follows a similar decision earlier in the week, when he was also named among the substitutes shortly after returning from international duty.
Zidane had featured for Algeria against Uruguay national football team, but just two days later he was left out of the starting line-up on 2 April. On that occasion, his coach opted to start Ander Astralaga instead.
The situation has now repeated itself, with Zidane once again watching from the bench during a second successive away match.
His absence from training during the week has been suggested as a possible reason behind the decision, although no official confirmation has been provided.
This is not the first time the goalkeeper has faced such circumstances. Earlier in the season, he experienced similar spells on the sidelines, notably in September and November, when he was also relegated to a substitute role.
Granada’s recent performances may, however, influence future selection decisions. The team have suffered back-to-back defeats against Las Palmas and CD Castellón, results that could prompt a reassessment of the current line-up.
For Zidane, the situation comes at a significant moment, as he looks to maintain form and readiness ahead of upcoming international commitments, including preparations linked to the FIFA World Cup.
While his club involvement has been limited in recent days, the goalkeeper remains a key figure for Algeria, with his position in the national setup unchanged despite his recent absence from the starting XI at Granada.
