Luca Zidane determined to carve out his own path in football
Luca Zidane says he is still chasing his best level as he continues to build his own identity in football.
In a wide-ranging interview with Onze Mondial, the Granada goalkeeper reflected on growing up at Real Madrid, carrying the Zidane name, and adapting to life with Algeria.
He explained that his childhood at Valdebebas felt almost like a professional environment from the start, with a strong winning culture and very high standards. He also said the family name brought pride, but it could also increase pressure and criticism, especially in difficult moments.
Zidane spoke openly about the influence of his brothers, the role of his father as a parent rather than a coach, and the values of respect, work, and humility that shaped him. He said he now feels more recognized for what he does on the pitch, rather than only as Zinedine Zidane’s son.
On the international stage, he described his connection to Algeria as deeply personal, rooted in family and culture. He also praised the unity and quality of the current squad, saying the supporters are among the best in the world.
