Loïc Lapoussin: left midfielder linked with move to Chinese side GX Hengchen

Loïc Lapoussin has completed a free transfer from Belgian side Sint-Truidense VV to Chinese club Guangxi Hengchen, signing a contract that begins on 2026-03-03 and runs until 2026-12-31. The 29-year-old left midfielder leaves the Jupiler Pro League for China League One, joining GX Hengchen with a current market value listed at €800k.

The move ends Lapoussin’s brief spell at Sint-Truiden, whom he joined from Union Saint-Gilloise earlier in the 24/25 season. Although the transfer from STVV to GX Hengchen has been completed as a free transfer, the Malagasy-French midfielder arrives in China as an established professional with experience in both French and Belgian football, and as a full international for Madagascar.

Lapoussin, born in Rosny-sous-Bois and standing 1.81 m tall, is primarily a left midfielder and prefers his right foot. His dual nationality of Madagascar and France has defined his career path: formed in the French system at US Créteil-Lusitanos, he later moved abroad to Belgium and built his reputation there. At club level, he progressed from US Créteil-Lusitanos Youth to the U19s, then to the B team, before stepping into senior professional football with Red Star FC. From Red Star he made his first move to Belgium with Royal Excelsior Virton, followed by a key transfer to Union Saint-Gilloise and then to Sint-Truiden.

His time at Union Saint-Gilloise saw his market value climb significantly, rising from €475k to a peak of €4m during their strong campaigns in Belgian football. Even as his estimated value decreased over the subsequent seasons, he remained a valued squad member, with Sint-Truiden still carrying him at €2.5m for much of 2025 before his valuation dropped to €800k by the end of that year.

At GX Hengchen, Lapoussin will be competing in China League One rather than in Belgium, France, or his home national context. The move places him firmly in a growing market where foreign players are often expected to provide immediate impact and leadership, particularly in wide and creative positions. His experience across multiple Belgian clubs and previous spells in France suggest he is accustomed to adapting to different tactical systems and league demands.

Lapoussin’s transfer history shows a consistent upward trajectory in competition level: from youth and reserve football in France, through Red Star, into the Belgian second and then top tiers, and now into a new environment in China. With Guangxi Hengchen securing him without a transfer fee, the club has taken a relatively low-risk step to add experience and technical quality on the left flank.

If he settles quickly and reproduces the form that once made him a €4m asset at Union Saint-Gilloise, this spell in China could extend his career at a high professional level and open further doors in Asia. At 29, Lapoussin arrives at GX Hengchen with enough mileage to offer immediate quality and enough time to reshape the final chapter of his career in a rapidly evolving football market.
